I promised to write something every day… not an easy task! I missed yesterday! The first sentence is all I wrote… couldn’t very well post THAT now, could I?
So before I go and enjoy my “Découvrir le monde des vins” class no. 4, I figured I’d share that experience thus far.
I do enjoy wine and food. I do want to get back into the “booze” business again - it was the most enjoyable job I ever had. Damn you Corby for moving to Toronto! Sooo, I figured I would give myself every chance by adding this class (and all the others given by the SAQ) as a boost.
Tonight we get to sample Italy and Spain… can’t wait!
Making salsa. There is nothing more relaxing for me than to spend hours in the kitchen, taking my time, following the necessary steps so that we can benefit from the bounty of the garden (whether it be mine or the lovely farmers who supply me with the produce I need!)
This year, though I planted many, many tomato plants, I only managed to make one batch of salsa! A mere 7 jars. In my house, that won’t last us until even Christmas. So, after one of our son’s football matches, we made our way to the LaPrairie Farmer’s Market. Yes, I do so love to go to Jean-Talon Market but let’s face it, it is not in my ‘hood! I wanted to start tout de suite!
We picked up boxes of lovely veg:

just waiting to be transformed into yummy salsas, relishes, antipastos…

Yesterday I posted my summer antipasto (thanks Dad for reminding me it had been a loooong time since I made some!
These are the main ingredients that get layered along with olive oil, parsley, peppercorns, salt…

The layering process The view from the top!

Now we have to wait to try it out!
So, I read Seth’s blog and last week he says if you want to improve your writing skills you have to write every day in a public forum to improve… so here I am one week later, FINALLY writing! Sad, eh?
It’s just the way it is… between work, my karate, my boy’s karate, my other boy’s football, cooking, cleaning, etc….it’s just so difficult to find the time to do just that! I try to get at least 6-7 hours of sleep… I have to just come clean and admit, I can’t do it. I can’t do it all! What a reality check!
That said, here I am on a perfect Saturday to do what I most enjoy. 8 jars of Summer Antipasto:

A fabulous Sicilian pasta sauce

And a lovely roasted red pepper and sweet potato potage

are the results of my labours…
May not look like much but took the better part of the day to do… so much so, that I completely forgot Aidan’s karate class at 11:00. Damn! Must get better organised in my time and must also give the child some responsibility to remind me that it’s time to go!!!
In my attempts to have a little something to say every day, I shall also strive to keep you entertained…
